I am joining the swim academy at my highschool?

I heard swimming makes you really lean and toned, but I also heard that in high school they MAKE you lift weights, which then makes you bulky and I DO NOT WANT THAT. It will make me look like a man. Is there any ways that I can get out of lifting weights, or not get bulky? I want the lean, toned body, but without the ugly bulk from the weights they make us do.
